CDCO Machinery Corp

Well guys I cannot account for the differences between my experience and yours. Perhaps the last thread about CDCO had some impact on the way he does business. Either he has a lot less going on now and more time to respond to emails; after all the bad publicity people stopped ordering from him, Or maybe he saw that thread himself and realized that the majority of his customers were unhappy and were speaking out about it on a world-wide forum and decided to up his game.

In either or any case, I feel like I lucked out. It would be good to keep tabs on this, to see if things improve. I will probably order from toolsforcheap next time just to be safe, but if I start hearing good and only good things about CDCO then I might keep both options on the table.

I really don't think Franks products are any different than Shars or probably many others out there. Both Shars and CDCO are within driving distance for me so if I have a problem with an item I can deal with them face to face. That doesn't completely solve the language barrier but I have a better chance of getting my point across. Having said that....I've never had a problem with the stuff I've bought. I don't expect the highest quality when I'm buying something that cheap. I wouldn't buy cutting tools or precision fixtures, ect. Frank told me that he has quit selling the 5c collet chucks because they are all defective. He did say he had a new supplier for them, but I don't think I would buy something like that from him. I did buy a Sino DRO from him and I liked it. I think basically....you get what you pay for.

No one is ever unhappy with product they never have a problem with. :)) I'm happy to had good luck, and I hope it continues.

Just a side note. Most of us that have issues with CDCO can point to issues with products, and how and if he handled them - basically customer service. I suspect if your new DRO went belly up in 90 days and there was no resolve, you might be expressing a different view point.

I suspect you would be right! I may be pessimistic but I think customer service is lacking at a lot of companies these days.

I have bought various things from CDCO, including end mills, drill chucks, a small vise, some reamers etc. His shop is only 10 miles from my house so its rather convenient for me. I would say 95 percent of the things I have bought have been of acceptable quality. I really only had to return a cheap protractor that I couldn't read the numbers on. I have even called on a Friday afternoon and they had everything ready for me to pickup in an hour. I think its all about reasonable expectation, you are buying low cost Chinese produced machine tools from a native Chinese. I am just a hobby machinist using mostly Chinese tools, so that's no issue for me. Perhaps customer service is an issue for some but I have had no issues with them. In fact I find Frank to be very nice and understanding, and though I do speak some Mandarin I have never had to use it for anything but wishing them happy Chinese new year.

Slightly off topic, but I think it would behoove many of my fellow Americans to learn more about the cultures of the people they do (or want to do) business with, maybe even learn a few words of their language. I think you will find it goes a long way in helping conduct business in these situations. Just my 2 cents.

Yeah, I agree. I think we should start having chinese recordings on the telephones right after the spanish ones so they don't feel as though they're being discriminated against. Sheesh.....I have had no problems dealing with Frank, but certainly don't feel compelled to learn Mandarin so that he can sell me tools....

The people coming into our country don't have to learn English but we're expected to learn their language. Why?

Another good reason I won't shop at CDCO... I just found another industrial supply house only a few towns over and their prices aren't bad. I called them today because I had some questions and the guy I spoke to was courteous and answered all my questions. He even suggested another biz that has a few things I wanted that his place didn't. :tiphat:

I can't really argue with this, as written. I probably would conduct better business with Frank if I learned Mandarin, you are right about that. I would probably also conduct better business with McDonalds if I mopped their lobby while waiting for my order.

If I were going to move to China and sell American goods to the local Chinese, then I would maybe take the time to learn a little bit about their customs and some Mandarin. They would expect me to do that. They would probably be a little put off if I expected them to learn English in order to buy from me. Well if anybody wants to move here and sell me stuff from their homeland, I welcome them. But they aren't going to get very far in this land if they don't learn our language and our customs. Forgive me if I don't meet them half way, but I don't have time to learn Mandarin to satisfy Frank, plus Bangla to buy gas from Maannan at the convenience store, plus Hindi to get my uniforms mended at Madhuri's shop, Spanish to get my morning tacos from Jose, Swahili to speak with my biggest client, etc. you see where this is going. This is the melting pot; you move here, you get on board with the way we do things here. Nobody has time to make everybody feel special. I'm sorry but the burden to accommodate is solely on Frank, because #1 - he's the seller, and the customer is always right, and #2 - he's the immigrant, and it is incumbent upon him to conduct his business as business is conducted in America.

Guys guys, I hear and agree with your points. I to believe that if someone comes here to live and work they need to know the native language of our country. Trust me having to press 1 for English doesn't sit well with me either. I also wasn't trying to say you guys cant complain about CDCO because you don't speak Mandarin and don't understand ect... For me, I am cheap, and machining is at this point a hobby making me no money, so going to MSC which is just over 1 mile from my house is out of question. CDCO has what I need at the price I am willing to pay, and for me the service has been just fine.

The point I was trying to get across is that if you want something someone else is selling, and you can build some sort of bond other than I have the money you have the goods, its usually to your advantage. If its a one time deal, or you simply don't care that's your prerogative (no problem with that), and then of course why invest the time. I was just trying to help fellow members by sharing what has\does work for me so maybe it could work to their advantage as well.

I get you. With me I try to be nice and respectful to anyone I meet. Making friends or simply being polite often yields more than a smile and you never know what may happen down the road.
