BUT, you first must calculate how much actually needs to come off. You can do that by inserting the gib into the machine and measuring how much is sticking out. Using that number and knowing the taper of the gib, plus a little trigonometry, will tell you how much needs to come off.

BUT, you HAVE to scrape it on the sliding side of the gib, or you'll likely be chasing problems. It will stick instead of slide. It will not be truly flat against the opposite way.
 
Bridgeport scraped both sides of their gibs, ot is good practice to do so.
