Broken knee gib

I was able to some silicon bronze TIG rods. I put the gib in the oven and got it up to 350*F and let it sit for a bit. Took it out and quickly got it positioned. This isn't the best brazing I've ever seen, it's not the best I've done either. But, I think it will be fine.

Right after brazing I put it back in the oven to cool slowly. Hopefully I'll clean it up tomorrow and get the knee put back on.

Make sure you check that it is flat too.

Clean and notch cut. Ready to reassemble the knee.

Did you check to make sure it did not warp? Do you have a granite surface plate and some feeler gauges?

I do not have a surface plate. Best I could do was a flat piece of steel and my eyes looking down it.

You have a lathe don't you? Use the the flat way to check. Or you could use your mill table.

I bought a new gib from H and W, and its listed as .030" over sized (to allow for scrape fitting). As you know, there aren't parallel sides. I tried two part epoxy to a 1/2" flat bar, and it pulled apart as soon as the cutter touched the work. Has anyone come up with a way to hold the gib so that you take a rough cut on a machine rather than hand scrapping my needed .035?"
