Boston Gear SH82-P and SH82-G are looking promising, will have to compare dimensions once I have my gears out. I have requested more information from them.

I don't think you want to get hardened gears. You're going to need to machine the bores to fit. Then you can send them out to have them case carburized or nitrided. If you get hardened gears, you'll probably have to find a shop with a wire EDM that can cut the bores and keyways for you.

You would probably need to build up the back of the pinion gear to get the correct mounting distance.

I don't know much about spiral bevel gears, but poking around I found a few other options for you.

Arrow has a 36 tooth ring gear with a 4.5" pitch diameter (PD) and 1-5/16" bore. The mating pinon gear has 18 teeth, a 2-1/4" PD and a 7/8" bore: https://www.arrowgear.com/wp-content/uploads/cat06.pdf

KHK has a 45 tooth ring gear with a 112.5mm (4.429") PD and 30mm (1.18") bore. The mating gear has 18 teeth, 45mm (1.77") PD and 20mm (.79") bore: https://khkgears2.net/catalog6/MBSB2.5-4518R

KHK also has a 34 tooth ring gear with a 119mm (4.685") PD and 26mm (1.024") bore. The mating gear has 17 teeth, 59.5mm (2.34") PD and 16mm (.63") bore: https://khkgears2.net/catalog6/KSP119002GUG This is a ground gear set, so probably more expensive.

Thank you for the additional gear references! I should have the mill torn down Saturday afternoon, and making some drawings of what I have at the moment, and go from there looking at gears.

I feel for you. I'm working on a project mill - a great looking Huron mill. It was a fancy piece of kit in its' day. It spent some time outside. Water got into about everything. All the slides were stuck, 4" of water in the motor water dripping out of the big universal head. I'm well into the clean up - the spindle bearings suffered some corrosion. Replacements (if available) would be crazy expensive - no way would I replace them in kind (and neither would any body else). So if the clean up doesn't work out I'd have nothing to lose and adapt in different bearings. I think you could fox in a different gear set (nothing to loose). What other equipment do you have to work with?

FYI, I recently tried to rescue a #12 from the crusher. My hope has been to bring it back to life. However, after a thorough look at it all, I may have too many missing parts to justify going further. I either need a machine for parts, or I may have one to sell for parts. Lol.

Hello, It has been a long and winding road, but I am hopefully nearing completion of the rebuild. I ended up using Boston Gear Bevel gears, slightly different ratio from the original but doable, I had to do a lot of modifications to the gears and make some custom parts, but I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel.
