Bought a few QCTPs to compare quality in inexpensive brands.

The LeBlond can take a .200 DOC (.400 on the diameter) in 4" 4140 without slowing down - it's previous owner showed me that. I prefer to go slower, myself...
Same here on my PM1440HD. I only do that when I have a lot of stock to remove. I don't think it hurts anything. Machine doesn't seem to labor, 3hp, 3 phase. I try not to "sneak up on final. When I'm getting close, I measure, set the DRO, take half the distance to go for a cut. Take that cut then measure to see if that's really what I got and take the second half of the cut using the DRO.

On my LeBlond I can take a .250 DOC on the radius on a 2" steel bar. That's a little bit of pressure... (on my Enco 4-way tools post mind you...) I only push it that hard when I'm in a real hurry... I also had to drill a 2" hole in some stainless that took quite a bit of pressure...
It is nice to have a capable machine.

@Larry$ My LeBlond is 7.5HP 3PH, but i use it like it has a 2HP motor...

It was built in 1978, first installed in 1981, and it has less than 200 hours on it. Looks like it it did in the showroom. It came from the original owner, my mentour.

The more pressure you put on things, the quicker things like the lead screws and dovetails wear out. I'm retired, and am never in a hurry any more.
