Any online metal supply recommendations?

Hmmm ... tried an advanced ebay search, limiting sellers to "steeldawg" ... no joy. It said no such seller ID. Tried to Google steeldawg ... again, no joy. Could you please post a link to one of his ebay items? He sounds like a good source, and I'm interested in looking at what he has. Thanks!

Another vouch for Online Metals. Ordering new materials online ain't cheap. I like to buy the "proto box" packs. It's drops and remnants, chosen at random, that fit in a box, and are sold by weight. I've bought multiples of their large size boxes in aluminum solids, aluminum profiles, stainless, and brass. Buying this way has been affordable. When I need a dimensioned size, then I just buy that way. Last thing I bought was two 3' lengths of 3" x 1" CR steel, shipping was $35, same as the metal. Expensive, but that's short order new material for you.

Thanks, I have done that once so far, I ordered a 25 pound box of Aluminum remnants. I got a pretty good selection of material to play with. I think it was about $65 with shipping. I don't know if that was good or bad but I have a lot of flat stock in the box. I did not realize those were kind of common so I will look with some others have as well.

Greg,
I use Speedy Metals for specific and odd pieces they are a little pricey but I think most of the price is in shipping. I’m in the Houston area and they are in Missouri, I think.

Thanks, I will put them on my list and check them out.

Used Xometry a few times and found their prices were not too bad.
Thanks, I did order a "drops" box from them. Seemed pretty fair for that. I did not have a project in mind for that, I just wanted play materials and got quite a bit of random pieces for the money.

Another vote on Stoner Metals (60601dude) and steeldawg. Also look at HMK (https://hobbymetalkits.com/).

I am getting more and more disappointed with Online Metals - their shipping costs seem to keep increasing, to the point where even with plastic, the shipping costs more than the product.

These days, if I need a specialty piece I can't get from Ebay or HMK, I try McMaster-Carr. They may charge a little more for the actual metal, but the shipping is reasonable and it always arrives in 1-3 days. Often ends up being cheaper than Online Metals or Speedy.

Wow, good tip on HMK! Thanks. So how's their shipping costs, the material price seems very reasonable.

I gave up on Online and Speedy several years ago because of the feeling of bait and switch when I saw shipping. Crazy when McMaster-Carr is cheaper as I always thought of them as being the most expensive.
