American made drill press?

I don't care to own anything built overseas. I think I have one machine that was made in Canada and it's built as well as any old US machine I have. Not pushing this on anyone, but if you would like to see a series of videos on my machines I will put a link at the bottom of this post. I am on part 7 now I believe. The oldest machine I have is a 1870 lathe and it's 14-1/2 feet between centers. I tell how I got each machine and how much I have in them and there is not one American machine that I have that I paid as much as it would have cost for a China machine of the same style. Well said Jonathan! Used old USA made bought at new import machines prices is the way to go!

Buying used also support the USA market and local market rather than depressing the value of the dollar more. That is an important key to fixing our economic issues. And if no one buys the old USA machines they get sent oversea as scrap to be made into newer lesser import machines.

I think the last domestic maker of drill presses is Powermatic. It's good quality, but they don't offer much in the smaller size, if anything. And they aren't cheap.

You might try Surplus Hydraulics or whoever. I had to trepan large holes
for 4" instruments in dashboards; found the above sold gear motors , adapted
one to one of my d.p.s . Also good for BIG drills. ......BLJHB.

Ron, I have three nice old American made drill presses. One is a Rockwell/Delta variable speed floor model, the other is Powermatic floor model, and the last is a Sears floor model. The first two I purchased at school auctions and rebuilt them. The following is the web site for public surplus auctions all over the US. You might be familiar if not check it out. I have purchased a lot of things thru the auctions including shop machines, storage cabinets, etc. Everything I have purchased has been at crazy low prices.

Thanks Bob. I do keep an eye on the government auctions but the problem is that nothing ever shows up within a reasonable distance from where I am. On a different note, my search for a drill press kind of got side-lined as my shop was broken into a month ago and the perps made off with a significant amount of tooling as well as a new bench grinder and welder. Gotta replace that stuff first.

Yeah, I'm still trying to "catch them in the act" as I monitor Craig's List and some of the local pawn shops waiting for my stuff to surface. Probably never happen but it at least makes me feel like something is being done to try and get the perp(s).
