On second thought, instead of a flat bar get a piece of architectural aluminum angle (square inside corner) and trim one leg to the width of the top of the scale fasten it with double tape and caulk only the seam at the table. Make it longer then the scale as well, so the ends are protected.
 
The evolution of an idea .. at it's best! Eddy, you've definitely improved on my concept.

Michael - I don't use flood coolant myself, so I'd not even considered it. But Eddy is right - as long as you clean the oil off the face of the mill table, the silicone will stick very well, and will be coolant and oil proof once it's set.
