Alli express

AliExpres is taking a chunk of Amazon's business by offering great customer service but more importantly , by selling the same China made products at much lower price. I was looking to buy a Piezo Blazer torch, Amazon USA sells it for $47 , ( $78 on the Amazon Canada), it always pays to check Ali Express prices for this type of items, I ordered it from AE for $15 USD, the big difference is shipping would take 2 weeks with e-PAK.
 
After a lot of searching and doing my homework, I eventually decided on the SNS-3V DRO. I have made my decision mostly on your input Bob and that you seem happy with the product, so Bob Korves,if you are reading this, thank you.

Well it took me a while to install it and tucking away the cable leads,but it is done now. Now comes the challenge in learning how to operate the beast. But I am sure I'll master it.......eventually.

Another part of my mills facelift was a x-axis power feed. I am very happy about the new toy and can't wait for a propper job. O by the way Bob,you mentioned something in our PM conversation that you are not sure if I have the same one as you when I asked about some parts, but how does it look to you,is it the same?

The readout looks the same to me, Michael, but I do not see the scales in the photos.
 
Looks like the 3 axis version of the one I put on my lathe. It took a while to get it to read in diameter mode. I haven't bothered to learn any of the other features.;)
 
I've got the same one also, and I've been very pleased with it.
(Now if I can just get the Z-Axis installed sometime...)

DRO for Vertical Mill or Lathe - Info & experiences

I wanted to use the chip covers they supplied,but it took up too much space,especially on the x-axis,so I made up chip covers that comes up closer to the scales. The provided covers are very far away from the scales,I don't know why they make it like that.

Mine doesn't look as nice, but it will have to do until I can make another plan. I wanted to cut the original covers shorter and bend a new angle, but apparently the covers are extrusion aluminium and you can't bend it because it wil break. Well that is what I was told. I made a mistake by putting the y-axis scale too high so that mistake is on me. Therefore the cover would mount in the bend of the casting. That I can still change but for now I need the DRO to work.

The pic above showes the y-axis.The bottom pics are the z-axis. I can use the provided cover here,but once again I did not account for space, but it can be adjusted. But as I mentioned I need for the DRO to work now.

The bottom pics are just showing the x-axis scale and the make of it. And I put a stop at the back so the scale doesn't crash against the dovetail.

Looking at your photos of the scale bars, especially the last one, it appears that the upper surface of the bar is not in any way vulnerable to chips. So you might well be able to just use a flat piece of sheet metal attached to the front surface (using the bar mounting screws?), and have the shield extend an inch or two below the bottom of the bar.

That sounds like a great idea. That one is the x-axis scale,it would certainly spare some space. It would actually be vulnerable to chips from the top,but the reader would be safe though. Thanks for the idea hman.
 
The only problet with that is that coolent water will maybe run down the scale between the bed and scale and make the rubber wipers of the scale sticky. Or am I over thinking this?
