9A apron retaining ring

I am looking at the Army technical manual for the Model 9. It shows a retaining ring (see part 16 in pic) that I do not find on either my 1947 or 1960 9A. Seems less likely that it is missing on two different lathes. Anybody have experience or thought on whether this clip was not included on some versions of these lathes.

my 9a had the ring. I lost it when it shot across the room. I wound up using one of those cheap single loop key ring and opened it up a bit to fit
