Nothing like scheduled failure and planned obsolescence to flame up the consumer inside of me. Washers and dryers (and refrigerators and dishwashers) all seem to be built off the same set of plans in a Chinese factory. They're made to be disposable. It's amazing how many of the replacement parts are one size fits all, no matter who's name is on the badge. What, no five year lease option? Yeah, right!

Just had to replace the main circuit board in our Splendide washer on the boat. The front load unit is like in an RV When I purchased the stackable washer and dryer about 11 years ago, I paid $843 plus shipping for it, not including the dryer. A replacement is right at about $1150 plus shipping. The circuit board was $350. Biggest pain was having to pull the dryer off of the top of the washer, then pull the washer out of the compartment and replace the board through the bottom of the machine in the companion way. Not fun.

P.S. There is only about 3/8" clearance for either machine in the companion way on either side (total 3/4" total).

So far everything seems to working so got my fingers crossed.

I'll stick to my old top loader. I've had it and the dryer for over twenty years. My son has the fancy high dollar front load type and has had to replace Door seal after less than a years use, and has issues with mold, even in Denver's dry climate. Mike

Never leave the door closed when not in use.

Leave open and water evaporates.

Door is always open when not in use, doesn't work overly well up here in the PNW and on a boat. We do run some white vinegar when running towels in the softener compartment that keeps the odor down really well.
