A step drill aka Christmas tree bit would have worked too although would have needed a clearance below. I use them a lot more now for stuff like that than I used to.

Went thru a 5" tailstock chuck that came with my Niles lathe. I think It is original equipment for the machine, which makes it at least 124 years old. interesting construction, and the tolerances are very impressive, even by today's standards. The only markings I could find othe than the jaw, body, and gear location numbers was a stamped 326. Probably weighs twice what my Chinese 5" weighs. Will need to regrind the jaw ends, as someone looks like the took an angle grinder to them. Other than that it's in nice condition. Also made a quick and dirty chuck wrench, as I laid down the one I had, and the shop gremlins carried it off somewhere. Mike

This update is couple weeks old but i finally found some time to write. Washing my car in the driveway, beat up white octavia parks behind my car and my brother steps out. He already has one octavia that i've done lots of repairs and have gotten it in reliable operation. And he went and bought this one, originally a silver car, wrapped in white with more dents and scrapes than i could count, it's obviously been a company car or a taxi. And when i got in i've seen it has half a million KM on the clock. I ask my brother did you see the mileage, yeah it has good mileage, yeah. Its a diesel TDI so i'm not scared but i know everything will need to be replaced. I did ask him to take it back but no its staying, the main problem with it, it has a terrible knocking in the rear over bumps and its been to 4 shops and from the looks they all replaced some staff but is still knocking. Put it over the inspection pit and it was obvious to me, the rear impact bar has fallen off and was knocking in the bumper and the body, took off the rear bumper, the bar fell off and i wash off all the dirt that has collected. Not something i see everyday, i'm questioning how safe is it when the impact bar is hold on with so small fasteners in thin sheet metal and falls off. I'll be fixing the rear bumper in the next few days and putting it back together. I'm nameing this one "white elephant No.2".

Beefed up the Ellis bandsaw so the out feed tables can hang on the base. Replaced the factory front levelers with 1.25" acme thread and added casters. This saw has been dumped at least 2x that I know of, being able to just roll it should fix that. While we were at it we added adjustable positive stops at 45° and 90°. The turnbuckle just hooks on a stud for 90° and drops out of the way when not needed.
