Today was the coldest day this year -14 celsius. And my diesel fuel froze on me again with the additive that should keep it freezing even at -39. And it froze just as i got in the freeway, so i had to get another car and left it on the side of the road. when i got back from work it was only -5 so i return the other car and took a taxi and got my car, it had still restrictions but i managed to get it home. I also stop by and bought me fresh diesel and put the car in the big garage. Fired up the heater and began removing the back seat, removed the fuel pickup and level. Men o men the first couple of minutes the pump only pumps out rusty water, also there was lots of paraffin and trash, then i clean out the tank the best i could and run some gasoline to melt the paraffin, and fill it with the fresh fuel and added the anti gel additive. Blow out the fuel lines and fuel filter, put everything together purged the air out. Now should be fix, it's ridiculous to have so much water in fuel.

Not strictly todays project but did the final touches a moment ago! :grin:
Everything except the blue bushings, long tube and thin locknut has been machined from solid roundbar.

I can never get mill scale off. If you have a solution I'm sure there are a lot interested!

If it is smaller parts you can soak it distilled white vinegar over night, cleaning vinegar even works better.
 
I got tired of using a collet each time I used my mill for drilling small holes. Made a B&S 7 by 1/2-20 adapter. It was difficult because one screw up messed up the whole project. This was my second attempt.

I had 0.010" runout with the collet. After spending 2 or 3 hours on this project, I learned the runout is in the drill chuck. I might have gained 0.002" but it was a challenging project to try out and helped develop my skills.

I have a smaller drill chuck that has a lot less runout but I need to find the right chuck key for it. The one that came with it is a little sloppy. It can only hold 3/8 or smaller bits but I don't plan on using my mill for drilling big holes. Mostly just using it as pilot holes and then transfer to my drill presses.

When I had my Repair shop/Chevron station .... my fuel jobber told me that the RTA used #1 diesel in all city buses during winter. So did many of his other commercial customers. #1 diesel doesn’t gel up like #2 diesel and runs better too in cold weather. Even my owners manual of my old 1986 Mercedes 300TD wagon mentioned using #1 diesel or kerosene during very cold temperatures.
