Well...was going to make a beautiful knob style chuck key, to adjust the back of my 4 jaw. Instead I had my first crash, on my mill. Ended up taking too deep of a cut, while climb milling, and it broke my 1/2" end mill, as well as put some scars on my work.20181125_141713.jpg20181125_141745.jpg
Had to finish up the squared off section by hand, ie filing. But it fits in the 4 jaw anyways.20181125_154907.jpg20181125_154931.jpg
Need to wait for my new endmill to come in, to finish it up...guess it's on hold for now.
On another note, I decided to use a piece of old aluminum ladder, that I was saving for casting, as a holder for my R8 milling attachments and collets.

That came out alright I guess..anyrate, thanks for looking.

Decided, since the knob was kinda a flop, even though functional, and since there was still a little daylight left, to try my first attempt at hardening. It turned out pretty well. I heated it to glowing red, in my foundry, then doused it in motor oil. Will have to keep it in mind for later projects as well.20181125_172623.jpg

Today i've put in a full day of work on the little Niva, first i finished welding the patch behind the drivers seat then i moved to the big hole to the gearbox tunnel, i welded a big patch then i made two more patches for the front and door pillar side, some of the places had thin metal so i had to turn down my welder and hill couple of holes i burn thru. Then i clean out the inside, and put on couple of coats of hi zinc primer, to stop any new rust, i'll be applying some undercoating and some sound deadener. I full day of welding and painting, i'm exhausted.

It's not surprising that you're exhausted. The amount of work you're doing to that car is incredible. Keep up the
good work!

Next project- Railroad track anvil!
I've been putting this one off for a while. The guy that found the piece of rail for me will be getting one also. So I have to make 2. This one is the practice one.

I haven't used my fly cutter since I got my 3" face mill. I forgot how nice the finish was with the fly cutter.

I got the top squared up, got the bottom fly cut. I didn't try to get the pitts out of the bottom, I just got it flat. I started profiling the nose. It's a lot further along than I thought that it would be for one night.

Great idea! Looks very nice this far! I'll be anxious to see the end product. Keep us posted. Thanks for sharing.
