2016 POTD Thread Archive

I finally got to install my single phaze breaker box.
The 3 phaze box had only 18 spaces, and I was running out of room fast! So I added a 24 space single phaze box with some 2" risers into a " bend box" for ez of pulling circuits.

The top box was a garbage can save from a demolished house! It leads onto a 6"x2" chanell iron "conduit that runs the entire perimeter of the shop. As I install the wall boards I will fish each circuit down to its terminal via 1" conduits.

By this time next year I might be making some swarf! LOL!

Hit the engine casings with kerosene and it will get a shot of brake kleen tomorrow to finish it off.

Oil pan and bolts went into the ultrasonic (Branson) since I just didn't want to deal with it.

Should all be good for paint by the afternoon.

Nice new coat of gloss black. Then the case and rocker covers will get stripped and polished.

image.jpeg Today I started my er40 collet chuck for my little 9x20 lathe. Started with 2.25" 1018 steel. Got it fit on the spindle and lightly turned the OD. Also got the nose turned down for the collet nut and set up with layout fluid. I'm a virgin with metric threading, so I'm going to do more research and will be practicing on scrap before doing the actual collet chuck.

I will be doing a nicer finish pass on the OD of the chuck and actually get to the end of the left side haha. After the collet nut is finished, I will start on doing the 8° taper for the collets. Then I will put in some tommy bar holes. Although it's not as neat as the stuff you guys post here, I'm pretty happy with it so far. Learning as I go and enjoying it all!!!

No shop time, but I did finish editing the video from the last time I was in the shop.

I'm coming to your shop, we can play and eat banana bread.

I have a Stanley garage door opener that I purchased in 1982. Thousands of reliable cycles over the past 34 years. Well the other day it stopped. I could hear a faint "click" but no light no motor operation.

Checked the motor run cap, all is good. I am sure no replacement around anywhere.

My shop used to be more electronics but has morphed into a machine shop in the past 6 years. Took out the control board and brought it to the bench. Ah good old discrete components, ones that I can see, none of this surface mount flea **** stuff.

Checked out the four bridge diodes...good. Hooked up a 12v power supply to the out put of the bridge. Checked the voltage at the zener regulator..1.4v. Doesn't seem right. Removed the 13v zener and now we have 12v.

Went to the junk box got a 13v 1 watt zener replaced the old one. All is good.

Installed in the opener all is good for another 34 years..And a happy wife is a happy life.

BOTH HAVE AN ALUMINUM HUB NOW WITH 30mm BORES

THE BROKEN ONE WAS RE-ASSEMBELED WITH DELRIN
SUPPORTS ON BOTH SIDES AND 12 SCREWS THAT GO THROUGH ALL THREE LAYERS OF PLASTIC
AND THREAD INTO THE ALUMINUM HUB .

THEY DIRTY ONE WAS CLEANED UP A BIT AND THE BROKEN ONE GOT A KEYWAY AFTER THE
