finished the indexer today and cut the keyway in the telescope clutch place.
used a 5mm end mill/drill to cut a curved face each side of the pin to fit between the gear teeth.
Not an exact fit I know but close enough and it works.
I used the pimple left from parting off as an alignment aid. I filed it off once done.
Here is the whole unit in place. It holds the position with only 0.003mm at the end of the chuck jaw so the rotation at the centre of the job is not noticeable.
The c/sunk screws holding it to the headstock will be changed out once I go shopping again, like wise the cap screws holding the index pin to the bracket.
I added the knurled part as an aid in lifting the pin but didnt think about screwing it onto said pin so it falls back down once the pin is in the gear.
Now the chuck can be locked I started to run the broach. The bit is ground from a broken centre drill.
I used the tail stock to drive the broack.
finished keyway.
Now I know where to cut the key way in the shaft. The key cannot sit above the surface else it will hit the plastic friction plate.
I hate this weather though, everything I touch is rusting from the sweat drops.
