I'm curios of the measurements of those China blocks... let us know how a few of them proof out to the tenth
WHAT A LOUSY CROCK OF )(*%%&*^&%!!!!!
I first tried measuring a couple of the blocks at my desk last night, using a 0.0001" Brown & Sharpe mike. I expected the mike wouldn't be precise enough to see the tiny (spec'd at +/-0.0001") variations. Hah! Disappointingly easy to see the errors. Several blocks were out of spec by 0.0002", some were worse. At least one block had visible raised burrs on one of the edges. Several blocks had measurements that varied across the face, indicating out-of parallel. Most blocks would not slide smoothly against each other, indicating more raised burrs (possibly around the threaded center holes?)
Today I went to my surface plate. I used a 1" mike standard to zero a Mitutoyo dial test indicator, then checked both 1" blocks and several stacks that addd up to 1". YEEEECH!!! And in addition, not only were the threaded holes different than advertised (M6 instead of ¼-20 as stated by Shars), but the hole in the .300 block was about 1.5º out of square. The attached screen shot shows the results in detail.
I've sent two messages to Discount Machine asking what he proposes to do about this load of !(&%#^%&*^. Luckily, I did go through eBay, instead of buying direct, so I'm pretty well protected. If he does right by me, I'll give him an OK rating. Nevertheless, y'all are family, and I decided to give you the cautionary word.
As for you, Chevydyl, I'm beginning to wonder if your post was what brought on this bad karma ;~)
