2016 POTD Thread Archive

I must be really stupid :(......I looked at the site and still don't know what they are for :dunno: ...... Checking for a bent axle ????????
Pretty much. Just a way to roll any kind of bar/tube stock (or propeller shafts lol) to check for eccentricity.

Finally got the tools and the nerve up to build a rifle by myself . My friend/mentor looked over my shoulder on my first at his place .
This is a 450 bushmaster in 700 Remington I turned the barrel from a blank.
Edit to add first group was 3/4" at a hundred yards.

Once I had that down Savage was next on the list . I have the blank almost there then just need to thread . Trying to figure out how to end the threads the same everytime like the factory barrels?

I think you could end the threads the same if you clock the barrel the same way when you chuck it, with the gears all engaged.

On the Remington threads there is a relief cut to stop on where the Savage threads kinda just end ? The issue I'm seeing is it on the few passes I don't stop soon enough the cutter will catch the end ? Also if I stop short every time there will be burrs where I did ?

image.jpeg image.jpeg A friend of mine asked me if I could make one of these for him out of steel. Seems the cast aluminum end didn't hold up very well. Don't think that it was ever designed to be used on a skid steer For stump splitting. The next one will.

ahhh so you need the tool to retract at the same moment everytime?? they make an attachment for that, hardinge makes one, but some guys make there own

there is another one out there I just cant think of the name, but you set it and it retracts the tool bit from the work at the same point everytime
