Good review Mark, unless you get into high power CO2 fed machines 3/4 is pushing it.
I went inside my Hypertherm and just tapped into the wires coming from the handle switch to make it CNC compatible Mike. The voltage pickup for the torch height control was there but I don't think its hard to tap into that voltage if it isn't already available. The arc current again was there but you can get a current sensing coil for that too. I think any plasma can be made to work.

Thanks for the input Greg. any tips on reducing the slag?

Me, the mill, and some drill rod had some fun. For a screwdriver swap at the woodworking forum I participate it, I made a split nut driver and lever cap screwdriver bits. They turned out well enough, I made myself a set, too. And one for my brother! For a few bucks in materials, I made myself about $200 worth of tools.

Very nice! Are those meant for plane adjustments?
Did you turn those down before adding the ferrules and blades or after?

On thick material I doubt if there is much you can do, the amount of slag and how hard it is attached is dependant on travel speed. On the cnc table if you can get the speed right there is virtually none.

I turned the handles on the lathe prior to adding the ferrules (copper pipe couplers cut in half). The flat bladed one is for plane adjustment, the one with the notch is for the split nuts typically used in vintage or high end hand saws.

The swap is just a group of people who decide they will all make one or more of a particular item, in this case a screwdriver or some kind of set. Then, the swap moderator assigns each person a recipient. Each person sends the item(s) they made to their recipient on a pre-determined day, then everyone posts pictures of what they received. It's a ton of fun and great skill building. For me, this was my first real milling of steel on my new G0704. The shafts are epoxied in to a snug fitting hole.

Today I moved the Johnson Model J saw to the front of the garage . I'm going to clean it up a bit , then sell it . I just can't fit it in the room that I utilize . It is a model J with coolant tank and pump , chip tray , hydraulic downfeed control , worklight etc . and wired 3 phase . I am asking $600 OBO before I get into a restoration on this beast. If anyone within a reasonable driving distance from Md/Pa line were able to pick up , I will donate 10% of selling price to Hobby Machinist . I have a loader that I can lift this onto your trailer or pickem'up truck . Or , I could deliver to someone for a nominal gas charge . Thanks , Dave .

Just to clarify ..............$600 OBO if interested and 10% will go to this website !

Moderators , if this post needs to be moved , please do so . Thanks again , Dave .
