Good start. I use old manila file folders, but even copy paper is better than guess.

I have a bunch of 5"x8" index cards that i use for stuff like this. I probably made a dozen different ones to get the size and clearances to what I wanted them to be.

I haven't done any brazing of carbide, I've just cut insert pockets and tapped a hole, also shaped the holder and gave the insert what I thought to be the correct "laydown"

O M G!!! Best wishes to BOTH of you!! My wife had a stroke in 2012 (just a month after we were married), and I know it's a long and difficult road to recovery.

Made a couple of aluminum shifter knobs for my and my buddy's Can Am Commanders. He doesn't know he's getting one. It's 4" long and the radiused end is 1-1/2 OD.
