2015 POTD Thread Archive

I've been working for two months (accumulating equipment, making errors, etc.) and finally have my X drive complete on my PM25. The power is from a auto window drive, 12 volt from a battery charger, through a Chinese variable [something]. slow speed is one Inch per minute, fast is seven I/M. I don't have a rapid, but it sure beats cranking.

I've still gotta cover the belt/pulley.

I hauled my Sieg SC8 lathe out of the basement and into the garage in preparation for loading it onto a trailer so I can bring my new lathe home on Tuesday.
It is really amazing what a determined man can do with a chain fall when working alone...

(Thanks maker of things for the speech bubble idea :) )

hey tom, why didn't you make the power feed under the table top? you never plan on having a tube on that thing or what? :) :)

Power feed is flush with the top, the control is on top. Bad Planning, besides it's only a PM25, and my shop isn't all that big, either.

If push came to shove, I could remove those two buttonhead screws and lay the control on the side.

I could tell that by the picture, was just rib stickin lol. have you thought of putting the control near the front maybe mounted to the bench for easy access?

I had lots of thoughts/plans, when I finally got started, making it, the box became more important than where it went. I may reconsider, put it on the counter underneath with the controls on the front.

good job on it tho, I have a 24v geared head motor that I was thinking of using for an elec power feed on the atlas lathe, listening to the change gear racket when doing long jobs is rather annoying.

I got the biggest share of the work done on my tool holder this weekend. I'm resurrecting an old K.O. Lee cutter grinder I picked up years ago, with all the most important parts missing. It is a table top model, but the grinder head and the tooling wasn't there, so I'm filling in the gaps. I've been following Mark's build, but I decided I could cheat a little by using an old spindex mounted to an angle plate. I found this angle plate amongst some old lathe tooling I had and I think it was originally made for a milling attachment for my 10" SB. Anyway, I whittled a bunch of cast iron off this indexer, not to mention a lot of rust that was under the bondo and paint. I think I'm gonna shorten the draw tube some and modify the crank. Next step is the spindle.....I got lucky and found a Dumore spindle under my work bench. The only drawback is that is for internal grinding and I will have to turn the taper out of the shaft to accomodate an arbor.
