Yes, I saw it on Tom Lipton's channel. I've also seen them with a step milled in. Built in parallel's that way. Tom has been doing a series on making a baby wilton vise and he used the mini pallet when he machined the base. It's a handy way to hold small or funny shaped parts. Next I'll be making a set of small clamps similar to the standard sets used on the mill except they use 10-32 screws. The pallet can be any size, I used a piece of 6061 I had on hand. It's 4" x 8" x 1.5", Tom's was 1" thick.
Be aware the "Frog Tape" comes in three types. Though all are green in color they are marked Light tack, medium tack and heavy tack. The latter is super aggressive.
Perfect for washing all those REALLY dirty parts - all the muck will just settle under the grate
Now I wonder how I can get my wife to let me wash my parts in the kitchen sink.
Yeah it's just a green masking tape, really good at controlling bleeding when painting. But it has been a multipurpose tape for me, doesn't leave residue when you remove the tape from surface
Made some new jaws for the Kurt, last week while profiling this part, it pulled outta the vise and FLEW across the shop. It made the first cut and I slowed down the feed, I knew right then I should have programmed a couple more passes. It was loud too, when all that pressure let loose, wrecked the tool too... I wasn't holding very much material, and in hard jaws to boot. So these new jaws have a dovetail cut in em, and I will prep the parts to lock into the jaws when the need arrises. These won't be everyday jaws, I made them especially for profiling. The dovetail is .085 deep, and I slotted a 3/8 em down the centerline while closed to have a built in parallel. Tomorrow I will have a part prepped and locked down to show, actually the same part as shown here just not wrecked lol. I'll be picking up my new CGS Tool Ferocious end mills, special alum cutters, to work this part.
