2015 POTD Thread Archive

This has been more than a few months in the making and is still not completely finished (probably never will be). It works as intended. It is a knurler that I copied from a photo (I don't know who to credit, the photo was from a google search). I had and still have no print. This was made as I went and each piece was made to fit its counterpart. And yes, I did knurl the brass nut with the knurling tool...

Ok that looks good, if you decide to make some drawings let us know. It looks like it should take some punishment without a problem

Looks like an interesting design. Nicely done. Mike

Am I missing something?? I see three flathead allen bolts but none look like they are pivot points for the scissors arms. Is there a pin I don't see???

Billy- yes there are two blind pins that are under the screwed cover. I felt better about using pins instead of screws for the pivots.

Been smacking my own hands for not putting things away immediately. I heard you have to do something for a month for it to become habit, and oddly enough, that's true. awhile back I started going to the local gym at lunch. I can get in a solid 25-30 minutes of mindless exercise, and oddly enoug, I enjoy it. 5 days a week, unless there's something that prevents me from going. Now, it's part of my daily routine, and I feel 'off' if I have to miss a day. So, I hope that soon I feel 'off' when i don't put a tool back, or sweep the shop at the end of the evening. being messy is one of the things about myself that i really dislike, so it's something i'm trying hard to change. I end up forcing myself to clean up my last mess before making another one.

Tidy as you go , take a tool out & use it , then put it back if you aren't going to use it again in the next 10 min or so .

As a apprentice 50 years ago we had it hammered in our numskulls that a tidy work place usually means an organised mind .. you make a lot less mistakes tidying as you go and you have far fewer mishaps .
Just don't get anally impacted over it , and end up cleaning & polishing the floor every 25 seconds
At the end of each work session plan in for a clean up of bench , floor & to empty the trash can or at least put an air tight lid on it , in case of spontaneous combustion of oils etc. if this is not possible . Also stop grinding & welding or doing anything that may cause sparks or flames for at least 1/2 and hour before leaving your workshop .
