Tidy end...Right. My project trash gets pushed back to make room for current projects, too. If I had to clean up between projects, that's all I'd get done, cleaning.

You push one project stack out of the way so you can work on something that is of higher importance at that moment, Then you see a part that you need on another. Well I can always go get some more to use on that one when I get finished with this one. Then a year later you go where did that project and all the parts go. Lets see, part there, a part there, now you start it over.
I had to start putting things in bins so that I would not do that, But then you go digging to find something to use anyway. I can never keep the place clean. something always gets in the way, I just do not know what it is.

Yup, I often feel that I do more cleaning/organizing than real work.
.....and the shop is still a mess!

I've had a HF adjustable auto darkening helmet for several years and love it. The first one I had was way back in the 80s when they were relatively new on the market. Was real skeptical to use it but once I got used to it that's all I have used ever since. I've been doing machine work and welding since I was about 16. I'm 68 now so it's been a while. My eyes haven't been damaged at all by it. When I retired I opened a little shop here at home to make a few extra dollars and give me something to do. Actually I'm doing more now than when I had a real job.

On to another subject. Today was cleanup day. I usually try to reserve Friday for cleaning up my shop. Cleaned up this morning which took until about 12 or 1. Then had to go to my local welding shop and get two bottles of 75-25 gas filled up. After that needed to go to my metal supplier and pick up a half sheet of 1/2" plate for another job I have to start on Monday.

Just never enough hours in a day to get things done. Still have a trailer full of hay I picked up yesterday evening for my horses.

WHEW!! Enough for one day.

I don't have that much bench space, so I tend to put away tools at the end of each day. I have various small containers for small parts and attaching parts relevant to the current project/projects. I find that restaurant bus tubs make handy containers of project parts. For ongoing projects, I reserve a couple of my card file drawers to keep them together.

I do a major cleaning and straightening after completing a project. (Or, sometimes before starting a new project).

I sweep at least once a day, or after making a bunch of chips in an operation. Chips and sawdust are like paint on your hands. An old painter gave me the tip to clean paint off my hands as soon as it gets on them. Otherwise, everything you touch will have wet paint on it, and it grows into a very big mess. I sweep the chips to keep from tracking them everywhere.

Been smacking my own hands for not putting things away immediately. I heard you have to do something for a month for it to become habit, and oddly enough, that's true. awhile back I started going to the local gym at lunch. I can get in a solid 25-30 minutes of mindless exercise, and oddly enoug, I enjoy it. 5 days a week, unless there's something that prevents me from going. Now, it's part of my daily routine, and I feel 'off' if I have to miss a day. So, I hope that soon I feel 'off' when i don't put a tool back, or sweep the shop at the end of the evening. being messy is one of the things about myself that i really dislike, so it's something i'm trying hard to change. I end up forcing myself to clean up my last mess before making another one.
