I did some guerrilla milling today.

I purchased a used Sky Watcher Black Diamond 120 ED scope and the mounting bolts interfered with the ADM saddle. As I do not have a mill at home, I used the lathe to do the job. I clamped up the stripped saddle to the side of the tool post and top slide and milled a small pocket to receive the offending bolt head. Naturally the setup took far longer than the actual milling!

PS All my previous on the lathe milling was on the Atlas, what a difference this time. No vibrations, steady as a rock feed. Loved it, where before on the Atlas it was hairy and scary. Now I HAVE to get the milling attachment setup.

Well, after grabbing a box of 1/4-20 allen bolts I finished putting the power feed assembly together. Had to do a bit of adjusting and tappering of the clutch "fork", but then it worked very smooth. Made a handel for it and checked out the operation, works really well with less slop than the cross feed screw. Now was the moment of truth, would the window motor have enough guts to work.

Well, since I dont have a 24VDC power supply made for it yet, I did a test by hooking it up to a small 12VDC battery charger. The motor ran but slow and the clutch worked very well. Decided to try to force it to stop by grabbing the opposite end hand wheel ....... I could stop it, but barely. Very pleased with this little motor as it seems to have guts even when running 1/2 voltage. Already have a PWM on order and now get to work on the schematics to make it do what I want. Need direction reversal, plus the ability to run full speed both ways, variable both ways, and variable one way, full reverse (in either selected directions). Will also put limit switches (adjustable) to set the back and forth limits, as well as "clutch cut out" far end limits (just in case). While electronics would do well here, going to stay old school and use some 4 pole relays for all but the end limits, which I will make mechanical via a drill rod. Cant wait to get the PWM and see how much guts this thing has when fully powered.

Great looking rack!Is it for the Clausing or Harding. I have a 8520 Clausing and didn't think you could get that many collets for it! Nice job - Updated - - -

I made a collet rack to fit a drawer in my new SS tool box. Its 1/2" birch plywood; 96 slots. I still have room for 11 more specialty collets!

These are 5C collets for the Hardinge. The 8520 takes MT2. I am still working on a complete set of those!

I installed a belt drive conversion from Little Machine Shop on my Grizzly G8689 mini mill. It's a lot quieter and smoother now, compared with the factory gear drive.

I posted a detailed review with many pictures on my website.

With all the awesome projects on this thread I'm a little embarrassed to add mine which is kinda lame but handy. I hate putting tools on the chip pan. I have a bad back and have to stoop to see past the carriage. I made an easily movable and removable tool tray and put some magnets on it just to keep my tools out where I can access them without much movement on my part.

I think this is a great idea. I am still unpacking my shop, but I have always made wood blocks that hold the most common tools at hand at every machine- so with a lathe, I would have a hole drilled for a small flathead screwdriver, the different hex keys for common adjustments, small parts brush for swarf, magnifying glass, tool-bit lathe center level (fun tool!),

Finished the first of two mounting blocks for the Y-axis DRO on my Grizzly mini mill.

Not a darn thing!!! And I am bummed about it too. I keep getting side tracked when I need to get out to the shop and get some cleaning done ASAP. Gonna need the room when I go get my 9X and bring it home. Was looking at a handi house to store just tools in, but them rascals are pretty spendy for a wooden box on skids. I can definitely build one for less than three grand, but swinging a hammer that much in the heat would probably do me in. Plus I want the instant solution to the problem delivered yesterday. Oh well I got three cases of glass bottles and a gross of caps in yesterday UPS so I can bottle the batch I have had in the ferm chamber for three weeks now. I'm hoping it turns out half way decent. It was my first run on the components I am building for my brew tower. So far so good. Just gotta finish the control panel and I will be in bidness

If getting 'side tracked' is the problem then ... do something on the side. :))
