    Atlas Frankenstein Lathe

S o I have an atlas lathe that I am looking to get some more information about. From my own research, it appears that a previous owner has taken a 10" headstock and mounted it to a bed from an Atlas 12" along with the 12" carriage and tailstock. It looks like they machined and adapter/raiser...

Atlas / Craftsman 12'' Metal Lathe Restoration [1937]

Hey guys, I felt like this post would make sense as it's own thread. I wanted to thank everyone here for helping me out with the identification and tear down of this piece of vintage machinery. It's awesome to find a community so passionate about these pieces of history. According to @wa5cab...

    My chuck done gone bad..

I have a 6" independent 4-jaw chuck on my Atlas TH54 lathe. Other night I was about to dial in a stud for threading and the (jaw) screw stripped its thread. On a closer look, the threads in the chuck body are just plain worn out. I knew they were worn, but not that bad (or so I thought). Well...

I just bought a craftsman 12in lathe 101.07383 after reading through some articles about the history of atlas craftsman lathes I determined it must be about a 1939 As it has the bronze "babbit" bearings in the head stock and a 12 in swing 42 in bed measured end to end and no power cross feed...

    Atlas Shaper Pinion Gear Question

Short Version: Does anybody know the specifications for the Atlas 7B shaper pinion gear? The two most critical numbers I need to confirm are the number of teeth(easy) and the pressure angle(old gears, probably 14.5, but not sure). I believe it is a modified Boston Gear NF15B. It's fairly...

Closed WTB - 9-12" lathe in South East PA/DE

Hello all, I am looking for a medium-sized lathe (9-12" swing, 20-36" bed) preferably in the SE PA or DE area. I am working off a very limited budget, hence wouldn't be able to afford the latest and greatest. Ideally I would like a functional Emco Maximat (models 7 through 10), one of the...

    Help Finding Atlas 73 Bearings

Hi guys, A 15" vintage Atlas 73 floor drill press fell onto my lap (ouch), and I was hoping to get help here in buying the correct size bearings. Below is a screenshot from the manual: Do I just Google "2.05 bearings," or do I need more info? I just bought my drill. It's sitting in my car. I...

    Atlas MFC Knee Gears

I was wondering if anyone knows of a gear to replace the S7-60 helical gears in the knee? The ones in this MFC seem to have seen better days. Was also wondering what size the thrust bearing is supposed to be. This machine just had some brass washers. Thanks!

    Motor Question

I recently acquired an Atlas/Craftsman 12 x 36 lathe and I am trying to rewire it. The insulation on the wiring is deteriorated and I would like to convert it to 220 volts. Trouble getting good finish when turning

The short of it is that I'm brand new to machining, just starting on my "new" Atlas 3996 12"x36" that I got a few months ago. Problem: In turning, I consistently am getting a less than desirable finish on the part. You can feel the ridges in it. Sometimes it looks smeared, and sometimes it just...

What parts of Atlas/Craftsman lathes can be shared among the various versions?

I purchased a Craftsman 101.07301 6" lathe. I am interested in learning whether any of the 10" or 12" Atlas/Craftsman lathe parts would fit my lathe. Specifically interested in the hand crank for the carriage or tailstock. I've also been curious if the milling attachment from a 10" would work...

Reversing the bed on Atlas/Craftsman Lathe?

I have a 12x36 Craftsman lathe that I purchased a few months ago. I spent a lot of time getting it into good running condition but have noticed quite a bit of bed wear near the headstock, as is typical. I've looked at different options and the consensus seems to be "just deal with it," which...
