What kind of metal should a tailstock spacer be made of?

Is there any chance that the lathe is really a common model with an Italian badge? Many machine brands were either copies of more famous models or just re-branded. You might try to make a profile drawing and post that to see if anyone has a similarly shaped tail stock to help you find a match.

You might also post some photos of the machine and list the name and model. You never know when someone might have one.
