What kind of collet chuck should I make?

Admitting that my lathe is a small hobby lathe, Atlas by Clausing, known as a MK2, 6 by 20. I remembered using ER collets among others in my working life and remembered the deal of the nut opening a stuck collet reliably, I chose ER40's 'cause they go out to 1" and can be had for under $8 each. I first made a chuck to screw on my 1" 10 spindle, then when a commercial chuck became available with a MT2 tail I jumped on that. It is sized for the size of my lathe, no, I cannot use a long piece of stock, have to cut to length before machining, but that collet chuck has taken over my lathe, I haven't changed it out since I got it. I did make a thread protector from my first chuck, cut off the chuck portion. The thread protector now screws up against the collet chuck, giving it somewhat more rigidity. Yes, I have a drawbar holding the chuck in the spindle.
