What is a good size and possible brand vise for the Smithy 3-1

A bit of shameless promotion. You might want to look at this.

In the trade section. I tried a link. That did

When I had a Smithy the best thing I found was a 3" 'screwless' grinding vise - I think I even got it from Smithy. My Smithy has been gone 20+ years, but I still have, and use, that vise. The vise that comes with a Smithy is junk - it's completely inadequate for milling and I can see a lot of people blaming themselves while it's the work walking all over the place.

Another vote for the screwless grinding vise. That's what I use on my Shoptask 3-in-1. I have a 4" Kurt but it doesn't really fit the table very well, I use it on my bigger machines.

Something very important to keep in mind: most of these 3-in-1 machines have very limited quill travel and the milling spindle is way above the table. I have to mount my vise on riser blocks that are about 3" tall to do just about anything. When you are considering vises, think about how yo will mount them.

Does anybody make 2 piece vises for these. That would be a great option for maximizing Z along with a large Y clamping ability.
