I guess if there is a positive spin on this, it is that some level of safety margin was observed and even with the total loss of one support, it did not come crashing down.

I used to sail with a guy who designs and builds roller coasters. Have no idea if this was one of his, but if it was I’d expect it could have several failures like that before the cars would come off.

Agree it should have been caught way before it got this bad, but good engineering requires multiple failsafes before any catastrophic event can occur.
