Remington 788 build

I thought the 6BR was smaller...may have the 6PPC/Grendel in my mind...will have to look that up.

If the ejection port is different between the .243 and 22-250, the bolt may be a different length also... I have a 788 in .243 if you want some measurements...

I have seven 788s... two in .222, a .223, a .243, 6mm Rem, .308, and .44 Magnum...

I would like to have a 22-250, but the one that I really want is the 7mm-08...

They are very accurate rifles... but have a reputation for having certain issues...

I really doubt that a 700 stock would work on a 788 without extensive work... I don't own a 700 and have never tried a 700 stock on a 788, so I couldn't say for sure, but I doubt it. There are too many differences between the two.

The 6BR is my pet. Short case, but with a Berger 105 they load as long as a .243, and in order to clear a normal 700 SA the feed ramp needs to be notched and blended to clear for reliable feeding. Don't be deceived by the case size, it's flat as they come at 1000 yds, 30-ish grains of varget, minimal recoil, and is superior in wind.

The BR is 1.5” approximately while the 22-250 is about 1.9”. There are others that use the same case shape but longer like the 308x1.75 etc. I know that in my Sav 99 the case length is limited and with the long bullets the BR was a good fit with the barrel I was using.

Nobody doing long range with a 6BR (bullets around 100 grains) is loading to SAAMI COL spec, especially for the BR REM, which is not exactly the same as the 6MMBR. The actual COL for current 6BR-Norma variant spec is up to 2.5", even though the case is very short. 6BR is a highpower competition cartridge, so it must feed from a mag box, which takes up some feed space on the bottom of the receiver, so it ends up functionally taking as much room as a 243. Sorry if the discussion is drifting, I don't get much opportunity to discuss the topic these days.

I have an enquiry to Manson reamers on how they throat their 6BR reamer...for long or short OAL. I saw the same...but the load data online is more light bullets in slow twist bbls which would fit my intended purpose. But 22-250 does that job better in the first place. Soooo many options. Isn't this fun!?!?!?

I agree the 22-250 is hard to beat for light projectiles. 4000 fps is a real barrel burner.

Also make sure Manson knows which bullet you are running, scenars need a tighter bore than bergers.

I know you say Numrich has different part numbers for the 308, 243 , 22-250. But they do that because a lot of people buying parts don't know that those bolts are interchangeable. The case head on the 22-250 cartridge drawing says it is 0.473, So it is the same as a .243 winchester. The 788 is a whole different animal, The locking lugs are on the rear of the bolt and its a 9 lug bolt, kind of like a Weatherby MK-V but with the lugs at the rear.

The barrel tenon is a very odd one too. You should have no problem converting it to 22-250 from 243.
