Recovering a damaged DC motor

Do you really need that end piece? How tight does the bearing fit in the boar? Is there any chance of it sliding out?

I've included a shot of the motor label. If anyone is wondering how I was going to drive this beast, I have a KBIC-240DS in route.

Googled that...been looking for d/c controllers myself. That controller shows a max 1 hp rating.
Will it drive that motor?
 
I dont have that exact brand but many of them are alike in the basic structure let me look through the pile and see what I can find. Ray
 
I would machine the end of the motor housing flat, then machine an end plate to fit over the bearing and flat to the housing drill and tap some holes round it and screw it down.
