Quick change tool post for SB 10k

Intriguing, why buy it when you can make it. You got a drawing you would share? I could be sure it was made in America that way...

I have made both a Norman and piston. I like them both.
Norman is on my Wards 10”

Very cool, looks nice. Great motivation for me to go make some chips.

I have had both piston and wedge tool posts in both offshore (decent ones) and Aloris. Th worst of the bunch was an older Aloris piston. Must have been a 1970s version.

All the rest performed the same for me. I'd go wedge, not on the merits, but on the popularity. People really prefer the wedge type for some reason.

That being said, I'm converting my big lathe over to Dickson from an Aloris CXA. Much more rigid system - easy to make good holders for it.

I believe the wedge is supposed to be the better of the two.
I don't think the 200 (bxa) is a good choice for a 10" lathe
you are still in the AXA size range. Same as my 9".

I used to do aircraft rework on lathes with tolerances to +/- .00025". When doing a run of parts, as was usually the case, repeatability was necessary. Always used a DTI w/ Magnetic base locating on the tool holder to confirm cross slide, (Y), position. The wedge style QCTP, whether it be Aloris, Dorian, or KDK, repeated the best. We had all flavors of QCTP available to us. I would still do a touch off cut, measure, adjust, and cut to size. YMMV.

Are all of the tool holders interchangeable between QCTP’s? Can I use a Shars holder on a KDK post, etc?
