Can_Crusher 2.JPGCan_Crusher 3.JPGCan_Crusher 4.JPGCan_Crusher 1.JPGI noticed the pictures in this thread aren't showing up properly so here they are again.

Anyone else got crushing thoughts to share?

Sorry gang, something is not working properly in this thread.

randy, that sucker really shrinks um down. . . .
the next addition would be to automatically activate when the can is dropped in. . . . oh boy, the safety committee is reading. . .

Those are cool! A magazine feeder/hopper might be in order complete with micro switch valves for total automation:eagerness:

A man that used to work with me made an automated Plc controlled can crusher with an air cylinder. Took the end of his finger off. Guess one can got out of position and he smacked it back into place just as it was doing the next cycle. I asked "stub" as I called him if he went to all that trouble and expense why no light curtain.

In talking with people over the years since, there is an unusual fascination with powered crushers as I know of a dozen locally. 2 of those owners have since lost finger tips. Actually 1 of those cases was not the owner but his grandson that got into the shop and was playing with it.

Not very good risk/reward especially since it saves little time over a wall mounted crusher. For gods sake at least make the controls so you have to have BOTH hands on a button to operate. After a thousand cans the operating hand will do its job with amazing autonomy and in amazingly accurate interval/rhythm. Something is out of place and you use your other hand to fix it but your control hand automatically operates it anyhow. After 10000 operation the brain has no thought process what so ever. I didn't realize this until taking a occupational health and safety class in college. Real world observation has proven it correct.

This is why organizations like OSHA was invented. Press operators where losing their digits and hands left and right. Pun intended.

Knowing most of my WI friends and their drinking habits, that would require at least biannual rebuilds. Mike

OK Guys, I know this one is a little different, but it is a fun one. I built a pneumatic can crusher. It uses a 2" bore cylinder at 125 psi. Works great.

I just recently donated my can crusher, hadn't been used in decades. I have switched to green and brown bottles... 8^)
