Oddball Curious Question

We have a coal strip mine just outside of town( hence the name of our town) and they blast at least once a week. You can always feel an overburden shot long before you hear it and if you have something in the lathe or mill it always leaves a mark, and once when I was threading it broke my tool.

Today people feel themselves to be smart by treating conventional thinking as flawed, you can tell that article is one of those instances from this line:

Whomever wrote that never framed a house or any structure.

When I learned to build, doorways used a real header on a jack stud. But I have seen new construction where there's nothing but a horizontal 2x4. Maybe they've weakened the code so much, that now, it's true.

Depends on how the rest of structure is built maybe but never seen a bearing wall without a header.

Myth busters did a show about this and made a shaker platform and it was an interesting show.

Doorway was the best place if we recall correctly.
