Use a RH tool and turn it upside down and part from the back, the only reasons that I can think of for parting upside down is that you have run out of room for more tools on the front, it also may save some time.
The main reason for me is the time it takes to cut the normal way, my lathe is just a small benchtop , I usually find it much easier to just remove the workpiece and cut it with a bandsaw but there are times that's not practical.
