Material wont fit in spindle. Now what?

In a movie I was watching years ago,Jane Curtin (Of Saturday night live) was one of several jilted wives. They had hardly any money,but her large(left over from marriage) gas guzzling car only took high test. She wanted the attendant to put in regular. He said "The nozzle won't fit". She replied vigorously "Use vaseline and shove it harder"!
