Lathe set up

I do not have a machine level yet, but will order one with the mounts. I am planing on getting the 8in level, which is about $150.

I plan touse the level plus check it with a test cut.

That lathe is almost identical to my JET 13 x 40 lathe. Once put together, everything seemed to set flat with no rock, so I didn't worry about it. I made a cut on some material and it was dead nuts on. If you want to set it on pads, and you don't have a lot of movement in it at the moment, look into some section of tires, or sections cut out of cattle pads and sit it on those. It will settle to where you have no wobble. The problem with lathes of that type is that the lathe itself is rigid and flat. The thin sheetmetal base is what give you a problem. Not as much quality in a three piece base as there is in the high end machines.
