You're probably feeding to aggressively. Make sure your tool bit is well sharpened, use "black oil" (pipe threading) lubricant, stay with the same speed, and reduce your feed rate a skosh ;~)

turn your heating on to maximum
open all windows
in about three month time it will start to take effect

There must be a way to turn off animated "decorations" like the fake snow. Maybe it's my eyes, but I do find it very annoying. Usually there are instructions as to how to remove things like this from your display, but I haven't been able to find them. If anyone knows how, please chime in!
