High Shipping Cost

I am about a 7 hour drive to the border, so not realy a money saver there! I don't mind paying the "fair postage" but $38.00 will just about cover the cost of a Med. flat rate box that can have 20 lbs in it coming north. One tool bit will ship in a bubble mailer for a couple of bucks.

Oh Yes, buy the metric - I have never had an issue holding imperial sized material.

You may want to consider the ER25 size, much less $$$$ and only an 1/8" less. I use mine on the mill too, so the smaller profile works better.

BTW, Using an MT3 collet chuck on the lathe will severely limit the usable length of stock, much better to make your own, screw on the spindle style, then your can use any length you want.

Thanks! I suspected I might be able to use metric for every in-between imperial size and you confirmed it.

I'm using my lathe for short hobby work like 1:12 scale live steam engines so I don't usually have long stock.

I'm surprised manufacturers haven't come up with a screw on type that you can run stock thru HS. Someone could patent the idea and make a ton of money i suspect.

So before I purchase that metric set, one more question. Can I use this ER32 collet chuck? It says to be used for CNC but mine is SB9 lathe that takes MT3 in HS. Just want to be sure before ordering. My guess is that any ER32 collet chuck can be used with any ER32 collets.
