Help With Lining Up A Lathe Tail Stock

The only reason I didn't just buy some lathe dogs is I want to turn some gun barrels and I didn't want to run the set screw into a stainless barrel. I really need to get an DRO installed it would have taken half the time.

Buy the dogs and use an aluminum soft pad . We'll get you there !

Had a second to make a cut today. It looks like I'm .003 off in seven inches . Being larger at the tail stock I asume I need to come toward me on the adjustment ?

Ok I made another pass just taking off the error and as you can see the two sides read the same . The cutter was just cleaning the left not really cutting .
From here I need some long bar stock and cut the whole length ?
