Ford Y Block 292 Disassembly Update

tony

thanks, i'll look into that when it goes back together.

the oil pan is off.

i am waiting for Walmart Stanley 1/2" drive socket set.

started to round off rod bolt nut with $14.95 carry in trunk

walmart tool set.

still have craftsman 1/2" breaker bar but

i really use Alltrade torque wrench for breaker bar.

reverse it, set it to 10-15 lb's and it works great!:)

it's not the torque wrench i use to assemble with.

have a nice day!

Bob,
you need to shop the pawn shops for tools. You get a lot more for your money. Every one around here has box after box of wrenches and sockets, etc., so people won't have to buy new good stuff. Lots of Snapon, Matco, Mac, Proto and other industrial brands found here. And of course, always Craftsman.

tony

now, the Stanley socket set look like the Craftsman sockets

of the 80's.

nice triple chrome plate.

but you know and especially on a machinist's forum

the tale will tell in the forging.

whether they were forged right.

i used to put a 6 foot pipe on my breaker bar and

put one foot against the workbench to keep it from

tilting up with those Craftsman sockets.

we'll see how the Stanley's are.

have a nice day!

hobby machinist's

gee, we're speeding along in top gear now!:)

found 9/16 that fit better.

have 6 of the rod caps off.

put clear plastic tubing over rod bolts on 4 rods.

then ran out of plastic tubing!

not even close to the way i used to do things,

but it's a start on the way back.

have a nice day!

racers

it's all apart sort of.

took #1 and #8 pistons out the bottom.

2-7 pistons have to come out the top.

found what might of been the 'spun bearing',

broken piston top, between top ring landing

and piston top.

later

racing machinist's

in the process of peeling rings off of pistons.

can't make out numbers stamped on rods so

just wrote them on pistons with laundry pen for now.

a couple of the piston's have scuffing so that might

be bore is bigger than it should be for the pistons.

have a nice day!
