Correcting this finish

There could be a number of reasons...
  • Resonance during the cut causing vibration
  • A chipped insert
  • The bed may not be level and so your depth of cut is changing over the length of the piece
  • The end is not supported and the job is flexing away from the cutter
  • Your tool post or holder has loosened during the cut causing an inconsistent finish
  • There may be too much overhang of the tool and a combination of factors causing vibration
  • A lack of cutting fluid
  • If the feed is powered by a leadscrew it could be a worn leadscrew increasing the spacing between the peaks
 
I cut it on live center, nothing is worn out, machine is new. Just need time to play with it.
