A little plumbing rescue project

piper184 - The gate is two pieces. The gate wedge and the threaded stem.

I would unsweat the valve and replace it with a ball valve.
There's also the possibility of using 'shark-bite' couplings, just hacksaw the copper
and apply a new subassembly; no solder applied in-place that way.

On a well, add a valve near that.

For this, many redneck options.

Given it is difficult to get to, start with simple.

How old is house?

You need to know this, what supply houses were around during that time.

Turn off well, drain house so you can remove the rest of the parts.

Drive to said supply houses with parts in hand and photos of the rest.

You may fine a new same unit that you can use for parts.

Other option.

With lathe, drill center of both sides leaving enough meat to be strong.

Drill to fit a rod that can be used to slice together.

Cross pinning optional.

Solder or good epoxy to bond it.

File to shape and replace.

It should not need but small amount of torque to seat, either it was weak or over tightened.

Us plumbers prefer to not use shark bite couplings. There are none in my house or my customers houses. Not that they don’t work.

If the gate is stuck, you may have a hard time removing it if you decide to attempt to rebuild the gate valve.

If it were me, I'd go for the brazing option with the right materials and take your time.

I’d bite the bullet and replace with a new ball valve.

Moving the water heater and all the reft of the PITA included.

It would suck, but sometimes ya just gotta do what ya gotta do…
