4140 Steel??

I use a company called Aircraft Spruce to get 4140, 4130, 6061, and other metals. They have really good prices, shipping is relatively cheap and they are fast. I usually get my order in 2 days sometimes one day if I order early enough.

A problem is,as far as I know(unless it has changed) There is no STANDARD color code for steels from different manufacturers,and there ought to be. This causes much confusion .

I would never tell a customer that cold rolled and 4140 are the same steels.

Aircraft Spruce: Several years ago,I called them,and told the young man who answered the phone that I wanted to buy some SPRUCE!!!! He said "What's SPRUCE ?". Of all the idiotic things he could have said!!:) I had to get someone else to sell me a piece of aircraft spruce.
