4 Cylinder Inline Engine

Ray,
Thanks for taking the time to post your stuff, always interesting to look at. Have you ever seen the way Stihl operates two valves on one lobe?

Thanks Chris and Mrben it is appreciated.
Yes I have briefly looked the Stihl setup.

The good news first.
I made a mount for my distributor and coupled it to the cam via 2 bevel gears.
It tracks and turns smoothly.

Now the bad news.
I was spinning the engine over with my drill and noticed a problem. Around 3000 rpms the flywheel was not tracking straight. When I slowed down it ran fairly true again so I believe I need center crank bearing to make it more rigid. In the beginning I said the crank was an experiment and it has proven to be a failure for me.
I will start on a new crank in a couple of days.

Thanks for looking
Ray

sorry to hear that you have to redo the crank but such is the nature of one-off builds like this. The distributer looks great by the way.

Ray:
It looks like you have room to put a center bearing for the crankshaft. It might be easier to do that than make a new crankshaft.

Thanks for the encouragement and kind words.
I will be putting a center bearing in the crank and will disassemble it completely as I found some other areas I didn't like.
The gears are plastic and come from McMasterCarr but I don't know what they are made of.

I like your distributor mount. It should be easy to adjust the timing.
