#20 machine oil?

I personally would recommend ISO 46 for 20 wt over ISO 68 any day in my book. I consider ISO 68 as a 30 wt oil regardless what the SAE chart says.

Part of the problem is the considerably different temperatures that the various standards are rated at.

Also, our original poster is looking precisely for 20 weight oil. If you are using that machine in Alaska or the Sahara desert, you might want to change the viscosity a bit...

20 weight non-detergent oil is available in 2 gallon containers from Tractor Supply. It is not expensive. Tractor Supply has many stores in this area (Pennsylvania). I don't know if they exist in Georgia.

I have purchased a lathe that calls for #20 machine oil for lubrication. It states it needs a viscosity of 17-23.

There's more than one way to measure viscosity; are you talking about SAE 20 weight
oil, or ISO 22 (which is the common lube for high-speed machine tools)?
