1018 cold rolled lathe chuck key

I think a hardened chuck key is a bad idea. I would rather have to make a new chuck key in a few years then wear out the chuck key holes in the chuck. I have made them out of regular steel they have been working fine for the last 10 years.

I always use mild steel for lathe chuck keys. I would rather mess op the key than the socket.

That makes a lot of sense.
