.030 taper while using a boring bar (?) you get what you pay for, the HF dial indicator stand makes a better frisbee than it does a tool, etc.

Good to know, thanks. As bad as that HF one is, a Noga or 2nd hand Starrett will pay for itself in lost time and materials pretty quickly!
 
Hey guys; look at this pic posted earlier:

I want to emphasize that if D is < 1.5" it will be physically impossible to bore this hole with the tool parallel to the ways. Furthermore it may not be obvious that the shank is interfering with the work.
 
Did you ever figure this out?
