Will a C5 collet slip without a 'key' pin? How to replace the pin?

Can you post a picture or two of the adaptor so we can be sure we're all on the same page?

I would drill a hole thru the center of the remaining pin, then press it out.

Here's a pic of a South Bend index pin:

I replaced the pin a few times. The pin is there to keep collet from spinning when you are inserting collet. there is no load on pin. So any soft material works. I have even used a plain old nail. Just turn it to a tight fit.

Thank you all. I am proceeding to remove the pin.
(As a transfer note to another project I have the quick change collet working; I will take photos and open up a new thread. Putting the whole system together adds another whole series of issues and questions. )
